Pumpkin Book Project

pumpkins characters

The 2nd grade students at Memorial are creating pumpkin book projects featuring a character from a book of your child’s choice.  This is a project that should be completed at home and returned to school by October 29.

To Complete the Project:

1.  Choose a book that has a main character your child can use to decorate a pumpkin.  This can be a book they are able to read themselves or a book that is read to them.

2.  Using the packet that was sent home (click here), your child can design a pumpkin to look like a character from the story.  Then, use your design to decorate a real pumpkin, a foam pumpkin, a paper pumpkin, etc.  Be creative!

3. Complete the rough draft book review.  Check to make sure their sentences make sense, their spelling is correct, and their uppercase letters and punctuation are correct.

4. You child is then ready to neatly complete the final draft book review.  Make sure it is their best work (complete sentences, colorful pictures, best handwriting).

5. On or before, October 29, send in the completed pumpkin, book review, and a copy of your book.

6. Families are invited to school on October 31 for project presentations.  Pumpkin projects will be on display in the cafeteria at 1:45 PM.  Please enter the cafeteria directly through the side door.  Please also note that students will not be allowed to go home with parents from this program - they will be dismissed their regular way at the end of the day.

If you need a new copy of the packet, please click here.  If your child needs a book to use for this project, they may borrow one from the classroom or during library.
